Accessibility Statement

Accessibility isn't a checklist item for Sproutive — it's the product. The app exists to serve neurodivergent children and their families, so cognitive and sensory accessibility drive every design decision, and we hold the website to the same standard.

Our commitments in the app

  • WCAG AA contrast minimum on all text, with AAA targeted on primary text — across all six colour themes
  • Touch targets of at least 44px, everywhere, with no exceptions
  • Body text never smaller than 16px on mobile
  • Nunito typeface — rounded, warm and highly readable — with generous line spacing
  • prefers-reduced-motion respected on every animation; celebrations are gentle (under 3 seconds) and never startling
  • Quiet by design — the only sound is a gentle, brief completion chime; no speech, no startling audio
  • Semantic colours (success, warning, error) identical across all themes, so meaning never shifts when a child changes their theme — and meaning is never carried by colour alone (always colour + icon or colour + label)
  • Simple, literal language — "Brush teeth", not "Complete your oral hygiene routine"
  • Visual-first design — emoji icons, progress bars and visual timers minimise reliance on reading
  • Predictable structure — the same layout and the same flow every session, because predictability is an accessibility feature for neurodivergent users
  • One primary action per screen and minimal visual clutter, to keep cognitive load low

Cognitive accessibility, specifically

Much accessibility work focuses on vision, hearing and motor needs. Sproutive treats cognitive accessibility as a first-class requirement too: low-distraction screens, no ads or competing animations, choices limited to what's needed, tasks broken into micro-steps, First–Then views for children who need one thing at a time, and calm feedback rather than jarring alerts. These choices are grounded in evidence-based practice from autism therapy (visual schedules, task decomposition, prompt fading).

This website

  • Semantic HTML with proper landmarks, headings and labels, and a skip-to-content link on every page
  • Fully keyboard-navigable, with clearly visible focus indicators
  • WCAG 2.1 AA contrast on all text; body text at 16px minimum; paragraph widths capped for readability
  • prefers-reduced-motion disables non-essential animation and smooth-scrolling
  • Meaningful alternative text on informative images; decorative graphics hidden from screen readers
  • No cookies, pop-ups, autoplaying media, or moving/flashing content
  • Works without JavaScript except for the small-screen menu toggle

Known limitations

We aim for honesty over marketing here. Current known gaps we're working on:

  • The app's screen-reader (VoiceOver/TalkBack) experience is functional but still being refined ahead of launch — full audit planned before store release
  • The app is currently English-only; additional languages are on the roadmap
